Proceedings of Sixth Annual General Meeting of HELP Higher Education Learning for Poor

    The 6th Annual General Meeting of the Society was held today (19th September,2020) at the Golf Club, Panchkula at 11 am and the following were discussed and adopted unanimously by the members.
    (A) The President Mr. Raj Prehar read out the report on the activities of HELP during 2019-20 the main points were as below:
    • 58 number students were given financial support at the total expenditure of Rs 9.76 lakh.
    • Every year the number of students being helped are increasing.
    • In January 2020, we held a get together wherein our past and present students were invited along with their parents.
    • Also prominent donors and important persons of the city were invited. Prof. B.K Gupta, Director Chandigarh Judicial Academy was the chief Guest of the function. The aim of the get together was to interact with all the stake holders and to get those feedback and suggestions.
    (B) The Financial Accounts duly audited were presented, discussed and were approved.
    (C) The secretary presented plans for the future.
    (D) Appointment of Auditors,
    • The Governing body approved the appointment of M/s Aggarwal Sahil & Associates, Chandigarh as auditors of the Society for the financial year 2020-21 and 2021-22. The yearly remuneration was fixed at Rs 8000/-
    (E) The General body unanimously agreed to shift the registered office of the society from H.No.56, Sector8, Panchkula to H.NO. 375, Sector -2, Panchkula 134109 Haryana.
    (F) The meeting was concluded with vote of thanks to all members and good wishes are accorded to the newly formed Governing body members.

REPORT ON THIRD AGM & ELECTIONS TO THE GOVERNING BODY

    1. Elections were conducted by Mr Sanjeev Checker, Reporting Officer. The following were reelected unopposed for a term of three years.

    2. Mr Mattoo, Treasurer presented the accounts for the year 2016/17 & same were adopted. Salient features are:
    • Donations received during the year

    • Tuition fee paid for the year
      • Rs 320905/-
    • Total expenditure
      • Rs 6730/-
    3. The President presented report of the activities undertaken as per details below.

    2. Of the 19 students, various courses being pursued are as follows
      • BTech - 05
      • BCom - 09
      • BCA -    01
      • BSC -     01
      • BA- Office Management 01
      • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering 01
      • Coaching classes for MBBS Entrance exam - 01
    3. Drop out students:
      • 03 of which 02 from 2014/15 batch
      • 01 from 2015/16 batch
      • Besides, 04 students from 2016/17 batch who were selected for assistance did not avail the same
    4. Other Activities
      • We have applied for IT exemption under article 80 G . A preliminary meeting with IT officials was
        held in April 2017. We expect a follow up meeting to take place soon.
      • As an annual feature, we had an interactive session with the students being supported by us.
        Besides 15 students & one of their parents, it was attended by four of us from HELP namely Mr Raj Prehar,
        Mr KB Khullar, CA Baldev Garg & Mr Lalit Kapur.
      • It was held at JNV, Sector 25, Chandigarh & was attended by the Principal & Vice Principal of the
        school. We were honoured with the presence of Mr Rai Chand Jain, our very good donor , who came
        especially from Delhi.
      • As a follow up of the interactive session , on the request of the Principal of the school, a career
        counselling session for class 12 students was conducted by our members Mr KB Khullar, CA Baldev Garg &
        Mr Lalit Kapur.
      • Besides selecting students from JNV, Chandigarh, we visited Govt Sr Secondary School, Mani Majra,
        Chandigarh & selected one student.
      • We visited various colleges where our students have been enrolled & met the Principal & faculty members.
        This was to gather first hand information on the conduct & progress of our students.
      • This also enabled us to streamline the process of making tuition fee payment by cheque or on
        line transfer of funds.
    4. Future activities
    • The Secretary Mr KB Khullar presented the guidelines for the society for the next year.
    • To increase intake of the numbers of students to minimum 20 for the year 2017/18.
    • To ensure that we do not fall short of the desired numbers, a stand by list of at least 5-6 students will be drawn.
    • We intend to visit more schools & broaden our selection base.
    • The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.

Interactive session with class 12 students of JNV, Chandigarh on 27 February 2017

  • On 27 February 2017, we held an interactive session with class 12 students of JNV, Sector 25, Chandigarh.
  • The purpose was three fold:
    1. Create awareness of HELP & the support it can offer to needy & deserving students to pursue college education.
    2. Offer career counselling to the students.
    3. Motivational talk to the students to excel in their class 12 examination & pursue their aspirations & dreams.
  • The class was divided in two parts:
  • Commerce & Arts students.
  • Science students.
  • Mr Kul Bhushan Khullar & Mr Baldev Garg conducted the first batch whereas Mr Lalit Kapur conducted the second batch of students.
  • Students listened to us in rapt attention , came up with various queries regarding their college education & future prospects.
  • There was tremendous enthusiasm generated among the students & they were grateful for an assurance of financial help to pursue their aspirations & dreams with higher education.
  • We expect large number of needy, deserving students to contact us when we conduct interviews in the month of June.

  • We organized a get together cum interactive session with students being supported by us.
  • It was held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya ( JNV ), Chandigarh.
  • 15 students along with one of their parents attended the get together.
  • Each student & their respective parent spoke of their performance, problems & aspirations.
  • It was heartening to observe that the students are focused in their studies & are looking forward to doing their best in their chosen vocation. They have become smart & have broadened their horizon since we first interviewed them after class 12.
  • Students have started dreaming big which is a very positive development. Responses like wanting to be RBI Governor, crack the IAS exam, be the best engineer, excel in R & D etc bodes well for their future.
  • Invaluable advice, guidance & suggestions were offered by the HELP team to solve the various issues raised by the students.
  • One lap top computer was given to Kishan Kumar, third year engineering student by Mr Khullar.
  • It was a fruitful & productive meeting & was appreciated by one & all.
  • Based on the request from school authorities, it was decided to hold another interactive session with the students of class 12 of JNV the next day, 27 February at the school premises.
  • It was followed by lunch at the school hostel mess.
  • Mr Rai Chand Jain, who has been making regular donations to HELP, came all the way from Delhi to attend the get together.
  • We are extremely grateful to him.
  • Mrs Santosh Sharma, Principal, JNV & Dr Vinod Kumari, Vice Principal, JNV attended the meeting.
  • We thank them for their active participation, valuable advice, motivational talk to the students & for making wonderful arrangements for conducting the meeting & serving delicious snacks & lunch.
  • On behalf of HELP, Mr Raj Prehar, Mr Kul Bhushan Khullar, Mr Baldev Garg & Mr Lalit Kapur were present.

Second AGM of HELP on 29th May 2016

  • President presented the report on the activities during the year.
  • 8 students from JNV, Chandigarh were selected for financial assistance. However, only 3 students availed of the assistance. These include 1 BTech, 1 BCom & 1 BA student. Besides, we continue to support 6 students from last year, making it a total of 9 students.
  • On 25th December 2015, a get together was organized at the residence of Mr Khullar, Secretary-HELP. It was attended by 8 students, from both batches 2014/15 & 2015/16.
  • Audited Accounts of the financial year were read & adopted. (same have been uploaded & displayed on the website).
  • It was decided that 15-20 students to be selected for financial assistance during the academic year 2016/17. Besides JNV, Chandigarh , members agreed to approach JNV, Mouli , District Panchkula & some Government schools in Panchkula to scout for deserving students.
  • With the resignation of Mr Kaura, Joint Secretary , it was unanimously decided to appoint Mr A Berry as Joint Secretary & Mr Baldev Garg as Executive Member of the society.

Interactive session with students was held on 25th dec 2015 at the residence of Mr. K B Khullar, secretary HELP. It was a fruitful session with eight students from both 2015-16 and 2014-15 batches attending the event. It was decided that we should have these sessions once in each semester to understand and resolve issues placed by the students.

AGM was attended by seven members of HELP.
Mr. Kapur, President submitted the report of HELP giving brief history, its aims and objectives and details of students being helped financially in the first year.
Mr. Mattoo, Treasurer presented the audited accounts for the year 2014-15.
Mr. Khullar, Secretary laid out the plans for the year 2015-16 which included finalizing website, identify other schools and increasing students for financial help, work on income tax exemption and tap sources for funding.

Career Counseling session at JNV, Chandigarh on 1st October 2014

We had a productive career counseling session at JNV, Chandigarh on 1st October 2014 in which 100 students from class 11th & 12th participated .The three UBS students who are a part of the ROSE society did a commendable job. The students listened to them in rapt attention and had varied questions to clarify their doubts to have a better understanding of the subject. The emphasis was on the courses offered in Engineering, Commerce & Medical streams. Most of the students wish to pursue B Tech & B Com courses after class 12.
The three UBS students who conducted the session were Harsh Kumar, Priya Verma and Ramanjeet Singh.
Mr Dinesh Saraswat Physics teacher, attended the session on behalf of the Principal of the school. He appreciated the initiative of HELP in arranging the career counseling session & the presentation made by the UBS students .

HELP conducted an interactive session on 30th august 2014 with the students selected for financial help from JNV, sector 25, Chandigarh. This event was conducted at the residence of Sh. Raj Prehar, Vice President HELP. The purpose of the session was to know them first hand, understand their progress and offer help in case of any problem faced by them in their respective courses. The interaction was very useful and productive.

Annual get together with students supported by us on 20 January 2019 at JNV, Chandigarh.

    We organized a get together of the students being supported by us on 20 January at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya ( JNV ), Chandigarh.
  • This is an annual feature where the students, along with one of their parent, are invited.
  • 34 students pursuing varied degree courses attended the get together.
  • It was a resounding success with students speaking of their academic achievements & issues/problems where HELP could step in to assist them.
  • We were happy to note that the students were confident, motivated to do well in their respective course & looking ahead to the future prospects of starting their careers in the work place.
  • Mr Khullar, Mr Berry, Mr Garg, Mrs Kapur & self from the Governing Body attended the event. Besides, Mrs Khullar & Mr Adarsh Kohli, BTech ( Textiles) Batchmate of Mr Khullar, who was visiting from USA, joined us.
  • Mrs Santosh Sharma, Principal & Dr Vinod Kumari, Vice Principal of JNV graced the occasion. Mrs Sharma was most grateful to the members of HELP for the excellent support being provided to the needy, deserving students of JNV for the last 4 years.
  • Over 90 % of the students selected by us are from this school.
  • Tea & snacks were served after the interactive session.

Counselling session with class 12 students of JNV,Chandigarh on 20 January 2019

  • Around 100 students of class 12, JNV, Chandigarh attended the Counselling session.
  • They comprised of students from all streams, Science, Commerce & Arts.
  • Each student spoke of their academic & extra curricular achievement & the degree course they wish to pursue.
  • Generally, students were found to be smart, focused & keen to study further for a better career.
  • Various inputs/suggestions were made by the HELP team regarding choice of career streams which are job oriented.
  • Many students come from the economically weaker sections of the society & would need financial support.
  • We would be interviewing the students in June after the results of class 12 are declared.
